Head out to this FREE concert for a full day of live bands, beers, barbecue, and so much more. In addition, guests can enjoy other activities including the Knology Volleyball courts and corn toss tournaments with Custom Corn Toss.

The 2012 Grand Central Craft Beer and Food Truck Festival is taking place on Saturday, May 19 in Downtown St. Petersburg's Grand Central District.

There will be over 30 breweries serving an endless variety of craft beers for all those in attendance. Breweries at the Grand Central Craft Beer and Food Truck Festival will include Tampa's own Cigar City Brewing and the Tampa Bay Brewing Company, Sierra Nevada, Lagunitas, Samuel Adams, Dogfish Head, Swamp Head Brewery, and many more.

In addition, there will be a handful of great local food trucks in attendance including Tampa's own Wicked Wiches O'Macalicious, and many others.

Beer sampling tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. This will get you a special tasting glass, a beer sample wristband, three food truck sample tickets, and access to all the other great stuff going on throughout the day.

There are other options as well. You can get three food truck sample tickets for 10 bucks or simply head to the event for free and decide what you want when you get there.
Admission includes $9 in tickets good for food purchases.

The 11th Annual John Levique Pirate Days will celebrate a decade of decadence and the discovery of John's Pass while preparing its residents for hurricane season on May11, 12 & 13, 2012.

The event celebrates Levique's discovery of the John's Pass waterway following the Great Gale of 1848 and prepares its residents for hurricane season, while fund-raising for The Florida Fisherman Lost at Sea -Memorial Fund. The John's Pass Village Association will host a variety of events throughout the weekend including a Pirate's Ball, pirate sea battle and boat parade, a street parade, a family treasure hunt, adults and children's costume contests, and more.

The event will also include various pirate themed merchandise, food and beverage vendors, along with an abundance of performers.

Again, admission to the pirate festival is free, other proceeds will be donated to the Florida Fisherman Lost at Sea Memorial Fund.

The Tampa Bay Blues Festival is pleased to announce its series of After Shows at the historic Palladium Theater located at 253 Fifth Avenue North, St. Petersburg, Florida.

The Palladium is within walking distance of Vinoy Park and is a beautiful setting to enjoy additional music while socializing with your friends and blues fans from around the country. This concert series features some of the best blues bands from the festival, all performing in the intimate setting of the Palladium Theater.

The ticket price for each night’s show is only $20. Tickets are available on line and at the door each evening. Seating is limited, so please purchase your tickets as early as possible.

Get ready to rev it up at this annual race featuring Indy cars, Mazdas, Acuras and other fast cars whipping through the streets of downtown St. Petersburg. The course is 1.8 miles long and contains 14 turns, with cars reaching 130 mph. Events include IZOD Indy Car races, Firestone Indy Light races, Ferrari Challenge races and more.

Marco Andretti, IZOD IndyCar Series driver, will be here, as will multiple-winning driver (and 2007 Dancing With the Stars winner) Helio Castroneves. There's also the Budweiser Clydesdales and Robert Herjavec, one of the stars of Shark Tank, who will be competing in the Ferrari Challenge.

Notable drivers include Florida residents Ryan Hunter-Reay and Tony Kanaan, former winners Dario Franchitti (who's married to Ashley Judd), Will Power, Ryan Briscoe, Graham Rahal, Scott Dixon, among others. Autograph sessions start at noon Friday and run 11:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

TIPS FOR FANS

Bring earplugs, especially for kids (most drug stores in town are already stocking up). For the littlest kids, get over-the-ear muffs to protect them from the high-volume noise.

Wear sunscreen and comfortable shoes to do a lot of walking.

Don't sleep in: Events start at 8 a.m. Friday through Sunday, with the big Izod IndyCar Series race at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. See gpstpete.com for a complete schedule.

One of the best places to watch, especially with kids, is Pioneer Park (Turns 8 and 9 of the race). There, you can sit on a shaded bench, or bring a blanket to sit on the lawn for a relaxed atmosphere. Car noises are not as intense, because they're slowing down for turns. It's also near the Bright House Speed Zone with activities for kids.
Turn 10 by the Dali Museum is another good spot because you see the cars speeding toward you, and you get a nice breeze off the water.

Consider paddock passes to get a close-up view of the cars and the crews. Car teams usually have hero cards at their garage area you can get for free. Many drivers will give autographs, but some may have significant lines and crowds.

A good place to glimpse drivers is the Gasoline Alley area between grandstands 06 and 07 between the Dali Museum and the ceremonies stage. Many drivers walk through that area to get to the paddocks.

PARKING

On-street parking will be scarce so look to city garages, the University of South Florida garage and Tropicana Field to provide the most accessible parking. City parking garages will charge a $5 all day on Friday and $10 on Saturday and Sunday. There is a free shuttle service from from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Tropicana Field parking to the race course. Parking at Tropicana Field will be $10. The city trolley system will offer rides throughout downtown for 50 cents a ride from 10 a.m. to midnight (Friday and Saturday) and to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

OFF THE COURSE

The Illuminated Night Parade, the nighttime Festival of States parade, kicks things off Thursday at 7 p.m. with floats, bands, beads and fireworks. This year will feature the always-daring Indianapolis Motorcycle Drill Team, the Budweiser Clydesdales and many of the Grand Prix drivers including Simon Pagenaud, Katherine Legge and Jay Howard. The parade starting point is Central Avenue and Fifth Street N in downtown St. Petersburg. Free.

Run the track yourself at the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg 5K on Friday. Cross the actual finish line just hours before drivers start the big race. Check in from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, and the race starts at 7:15 p.m. See www.imathlete.com to register. Walk-up registration is $30 to benefit medical charities.

The Dali Museum has reduced admission this weekend ($10 adult, $5 for 12 and younger) but you can only get there if you have Grand Prix tickets. Florida Holocaust Museum is taking half off admission, regularly $14 for adults and $8 for kids, for Grand Prix ticketholders.

The Saturday Market is on hiatus this week because of the race and will resume next Saturday.

THE RACES

IZOD IndyCar Series is the premier open-wheel series in the United States, competing on a challenging combination of superspeedways, short ovals, scenic road courses and temporary street circuits.

Firestone Indy Lights is the premier ladder series for drivers and teams striving to compete in the IZOD IndyCar Series and the Indianapolis 500. More than 20 drivers who have competed in the Firestone Indy Lights have raced in the IZOD IndyCar Series.

Star Mazda Championship is part of the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Driver Development Ladder and is the second step in the Road to Indy. Graduates of the series include Graham Rahal and Marco Andretti.

Cooper Tires presents USF2000 National Championship is part of the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Driver Development Ladder and is the first step in the Road to Indy.

Pirelli World Challenge Championships is North America's top production car-based championship. World Challenge is separated into three classes: GT, GTS and Touring Car.

Ferrari Challenge gives Ferrari owners the opportunity to enjoy North America's finest tracks while sharing in both the competitive and social aspects of the series with fellow owners. The competition also gives Ferrari enthusiasts the opportunity to enjoy the cars in their natural environment Ã�ï¿½Ã�Â¢Ã�Â¯Ã�Â¿Ã�Â½Ã�Â¯Ã�Â¿Ã�Â½ the race track.

A few years have passed since the last Island Festival, time again! On March 3rd Gulf Beaches Historical Museum plays host to an Island Culture that can only be found in our south beach communities.

Enjoy music from New Horizons Band. The band is a national program at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Eckerd College that encourages people in the community to pick up an instrument and learn to play in a group.

The Florida Suncoast MG Car Club will show collectors cars. The Florida Suncoast MG Car Club organized in 1980, is the most active British car club in the Tampa Bay area.

Sample the offerings at the market in the park. Artisans, crafters, and collectors will display their wares, including African and Seminole products, jewelry, wood carvings, hand painted dog collars, hand-knit scarves, gourmet instant coffee, plants, and much more.

There will be costumed docents leading tours of the surrounding historic district, local authors signing books and a used book sale. Inside the museum a scavenger hunt with prizes for kids age 9 and under. Special character appearances by legendary hermit Silas Dent and Pirates to accompany the new Treasure Island exhibit.

This weekend, the UFC will return to Australia, where the organization will introduce its flyweight division in the form of a four-man tournament for the 125-pound title.

In the tournament's semifinals, former bantamweight title contenders Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson will make their respective flyweight debuts against Yasuhiro Urushitani and Ian McCall.

Japanese Shooto champion Urushitani and Tachi Palace Fights champion McCall vacated their titles for a chance to compete inside the UFC's Octagon for the first time in their careers.

Meanwhile, the main event will feature welterweights Thiago Alves and Martin Kampmann, who will each be looking for a second straight win in their chase for a shot at the 170-pound title.

To promote the upcoming event, which will be held at the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia, the UFC will hold a prefight press conference on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET.

The 2012 Tampa Bay Rays Fan Fest is scheduled Saturday, Feb. 18, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Tropicana Field.

Admission and parking are free.

This year's Fan Fest will include a large number of activities for kids. Youth stations include clinics by Rays coaches, Reading with the Rays, kids running the bases, high-five stations with Rays players, photos with Rays mascot Raymond and DJ Kitty, baseball interactive activities for all ages and appearances by Rays players and coaches at various stations throughout the day.

A donation to the ALS Association will allow fans to receive a wristband, which grants the opportunity to get autographs from Rays players and coaches. Rays TV and radio broadcasters and more than 25 former major league players also will sign autographs for free throughout the day.

Every February during the Florida State Fair, Cracker Country opens its gates to the Fair's guests! Take a stroll back in time and relax as you experience the sights, sounds, and smells of Florida's history. Explore the museum grounds and interact with costumed interpreters to take part in the customs of the past! Take home a newspaper printed on an antique printing press right before your eyes, and try a taste of real sugar cane before watching its juice being boiled into syrup! Visit the post office and have a letter mailed with a special Cracker Country cancellation! Visit crafters and trade demonstrators throughout the museum grounds, see how tools were used in the early 1900s, and discover the art of spinning, woodcarving, blacksmithing, and making cow whips in the time of Florida's pioneers! End the afternoon with a bag of fresh kettle corn, smoky beef jerky, and a refreshing cup of lemonade as you enjoy traditional country music under a canopy of oak trees. Make sure to stop by the Cracker Country General Store to take home an old-fashioned souvenir!

This is one of the prime viewing spots to see the Gasparilla Invasion unfold. Thousands line the downtown waterfront to watch the spectacle as fully-rigged pirate ship Jose Gasparilla sails into the south end of Hillsborough Bay with hundreds of pirates aboard, cannons booming and a massive flotilla of pleasure boats accompanying it. The ship docks at the Tampa Convention Center around 1 p.m., where the mayor will surrender the key to the city into the hands of the captain of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla.

After their invasion aboard the Jose Gasparilla, hundreds of pirates get down to the serious business of the day: Tossing thousands of beads to hundreds of thousands who line the streets along Tampa's waterfront. This parade brings more than 140 units, including 90 floats, marching bands and 50 pirate krewes. It begins at Bay to Bay Boulevard and follows Bayshore Boulevard to Brorein Street, turns east on Brorein, then north on Ashley Drive and ends at Cass Street.

Following the parade, the pirate fest continues with a variety of live entertainment on stages throughout downtown Tampa. The newly redesigned and expanded Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, located on the east side of the Hillsborough River across from the University of Tampa between Madison and Polk, will host the main Gasparilla entertainment stage.

A Latin-themed entertainment stage is located downtown before the parade in MacDill Park, on the west side of Ashley Drive along the river between Whiting and Jackson Streets.

Tips for navigating the day

PARKING
Private lots throughout downtown Tampa will be open during Gasparilla, with varying rates. The public parking garages at the Tampa Convention Center, under the Crosstown between Florida Avenue and Morgan Street, under the Crosstown east of Morgan Street, on Channelside Drive between Florida Avenue and Morgan Street, Fort Brooke and Whiting Street all charge $10. But the best option, on our experience is to park far away and hop on board the TECO Line Streetcar ($5 for an unlimited pass) in Ybor City and ride it into downtown Tampa. Park your car at the Centro Ybor Parking Garage or the Palm Avenue Garage. It's $1 for the first three hours; up to $10 depending on how long it's there. RESTROOMS
There are portable toilets along the parade route, near reserved parade seating and at the downtown street festival, but plan ahead because lines typically will be long. Publix, 243 Bayshore Blvd., offers its restrooms to the public. Hyde Park Village has public restrooms on the west side of Snow Avenue, as does Kate Jackson Park at Rome and Snow avenues. Facilities at restaurants and bars near the festivities are for paying customers only. Depending on the lines elsewhere, you might find it's worth the cost of a cover charge.

DRINKS
Do not walk around with your red cup of beer. Police in recent years have gotten much tougher and issue hundreds of open container citations on Gasparilla day. Look for signs about the permitted areas, but the basic rule is if you are at the parade route, you can have an open container. If you are in the neighborhoods, you cannot.

MONEY
Bring cash because many of the ATMs set up along the parade route charge steep fees, and most vendors only take cash.

BEADS
Despite its rowdy reputation, "flashing" for beads is frowned upon. There are kids here, people. But here's a tip we learned from recent years: The crowds on the last segment of the parade downtown are often half the size of those on Bayshore Boulevard, so it ups your chances of catching more beads.

DESIGNATED DRIVER
Have one for your car or your boat because police are all over, on land and sea, looking for impaired drivers.

PROHIBITED
No large coolers or kegs. Open containers are allowed in designated areas only. Absolutely no glass bottles. You can have soft-sided coolers or lunch bags for children or medical needs.

REMEMBER WHERE YOU PARKED
Text yourself where you left your car. Police complain that they are hounded for directions by lost revelers.

RESERVE A SEAT
If you don't want to worry about finding a place to see the parade, you can reserve a bleacher seat or get a hospitality ticket. They range in price from $29.91 to $92.52 at gasparillatreasures.com.
